Although I understand where this is coming from, it is not a complete analysis. First, "Casual dating" is not a offshoot of millenials and Xers, it has been a part of dating for a long time. The "sexual revolution" is a product of the baby boomers.

Second, the author skips quickly over online dating, which has been a major factor in the dating world for at least 2 decades. I have met 3 girlfriends and 1 wife that way. There are sites where people focus on more serious dating, where a person can declare they are only looking for marriage, or only looking for friends. And other sites setup for one-night hookups, like Tinder, and others set up just for sex hookups. Many young people are using these outlets frequently, and even using them for the most casual dating available, one-night hookups or "friends with benefits".

Yes, Covid has changed one of the oldest way to meet, bars and other entertainment venues. These will at least partially recover, and the era of the pathetic pick up line will be revived.

So dating AVENUES are changing rapidly, that is true. But it is not the end of casual dating, nor is it the end of serious dating. It is like everything else in our society, dating is evolving rapidly and continuously, and probably will continue to do so for a long time.
