I find it surprising that I haven't seen this story before, having been submitted in May. I really wonder how stories on Medium get onto the main page.

I am a "liberal White cis" man, and I have had numerous conversations about this subject over the last year. The negative comments I see below are misplaced, IMHO. I find this story to be amazingly well thought out. A lot of generalization, as most of these stories are. But this is the first time I have actually heard the term "liberal White men". I have several thoughts you might consider.

First, if you want to segment men, cis White men vs. gay White men is not a useful line. Liberal vs. Supremacist is much more appropriate. Supremacists will tend to be homophobic as well as misogynist. But not liberal men, who can be both, but not to the extent of supremacists.

Second, I do get your point about LIBERAL White men not organizing. This is a problem, but I am a member of a group called OWMCL - Organizing White Men for Collective Liberation. Admittedly, it has not been all that active, but it is a start.

But I would suggest a couple of reasons that people like me do not organize more. For one, White supremacists are single-issue actors - their whole reason for being is to fight against the perceived onslaught of non-Whites gathering at the gates to take away everything they have always had and believe is their right by birth. But liberal White men like me have other interests as well as racial justice - for me the climate crisis and income inequality are at the top of my list for issues that get my efforts. If we fail with the climate, we will all be dead, and if we allow inequality to continue, none of us will have anything to organize about. Single issue groups always have more power and gain more attention than groups with multiple interests.

Second is the tone of the debate, which you allude to. To some writers, there are no "liberal" White men, there are only White men. And to some, such as Marley K., there are only White PEOPLE, and "Yes, All White People Are Racist". But when liberal White men like me do our best to be not racist, or to take some actions to be anti-racist, it never seems to be enough. Catherine Pugh made me personally the central focus of one of her stories, calling me the "White Woker". So when we do try to do something, and we get rewarded with a middle finger, it tends to temper our enthusiasm. My response was to shift my focus to other areas where I feel I can make a difference.

There is a lot to this issue. You have hit on an important subject. I suggest you send this article to Catherine or Marley and see how they respond. Try and see their stories from the point of view of a liberal White man.

But I found this article very insightful and thought-provoking. I gave you a bunch of claps. Keep it up.

Also, you should change the title of your story. It is flat wrong, we are there, even if you can't see us. And the title doesn't fit with your key points.
