I get it about using cultural characteristics as comedy or mocking of stereotypes. Such is NOT acceptable. But the "cultural appropriation" issue confuses me. What if a person adopts dress or language of a different culture because they like the culture or prefer it or legitimately identify with it in some way? I think of Eminem, who adopted Hip Hop culture, and is White. He became a hip hop star, after appropriating Black culture. But he grew up in the culture. Is his appropriation wrong? I'm not making a statement, this is a serious question, I am curious.
