I'm not a fan of the super rich. However, this is often how progress is made in technology, the rich get the first bite, but it does eventually "trickle down" to the hoi polloi. Startups need money, and the super rich is the only source for that. In many ways it beats taxing you and me (the rich can pay with the taxes they don't pay) to provide government subsidies.

Tesla has several somewhat affordable EVs, but the first one was a fancy sports car, and the first major production version was the S at over $100K.
