OK, so at the risk of sounding totally ignorant - why is it that the current dwarf gene that exists in millions of people today could not be related to dwarf populations in the past? So Homo floresiensis is considered a different branch of the human tree, but could not modern dwarves have evolved from either them or a mixing of genes with humans? Modern dwarves do have broad faces, and the fact that they are not particularly hairy is not much of an issue.
