Personally I think we should put MFA on hold. Rather, we should push for the public option. All that would be necessary is to modify the eligibility standards for Medicare to simply remove the "Age 65 or older" requirement.

This would get us 90% of the benefits of MFA. All Americans would be eligible, it would still be voluntary, the premiums for part B and for supplemental plans for drugs are not onerous and much less than anything out there now, and poorer workers could have this subsidized.

After a number of years, most people will be enrolled, as Medicare is one of the best programs available. Then we can discuss the single payer features of MFA.
