RE the mob mentality: I was at dog park once with my little dog, and there was a slightly larger dog that was just harassing him. Lots of other dogs behaving just fine. Suddenly the larger dog just attacked my dog and had him pinned to the ground. I jumped in and grabbed the dog and held him at bay, he wasn't a threat to me, but suddenly all the other dogs were surrounding me trying to attack him. It is a terrible, frightening animal reaction. And humans are susceptible to this as well.
