Thanks for this, what an effort. It is refreshing to have a "best of" list that is not a simple list of the author's personal biases.

I was glad to see 'The Yiddish Policemen's Union" in the top 10. Although not a science fiction novel, it is based on an alternative present/future. But the key is Michael Chabon's writing - intense and unique, he plays with the words of a sentence like a world class pianist plays with the keys. About my favorite book ever, but I may be biased because I had lived in Sitka.
