Tis all true, and the first African-American slaves were most likely already slaves in Africa. Nevertheless, the American history with slavery appears to be the first large scale commercial slave trade where a specific population was targeted because they were considered less than human. American slavery may not have been the first example, but it was surely the most insidious.
