You seem to think all of this stuff is new. Contract work, working for salary, charging by the job rather than by the hour, all these things were going on before 1980. And service jobs are generally priced correctly — that is the point of capitalism. In fact, service jobs are probably the closest we get to competition in our marketplace. So these are not explanations for the separation of productivity and wages that occurred so abruptly starting in 1980.
