You want a socialistic system that has worked? How about the countries of Scandanavia, which have very high levels of socialism. Or the rest of Europe - Germany, France, Great Britain - with lower but still high degrees of socialism. How about the US, with Medicare and Medicaid, Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, Workers Compensation, SNAP, housing subsidies - much lower than the rest of the developed world, but still a substantial level of socialism.
You are hung up on the old examples of communism as the definition of socialism. Communism is one form of socialism that is virtually non-existent today. There are many other forms that you are ignoring. You need to rethink your ideas.
